Civic Plaza @ WKC
Welcome to the Future of Largo: Building Our Civic Plaza Together!
The Civic Plaza will be a vibrant, inclusive gathering space for Prince Georgians, located near the Waye K. Curry Administration Building. The soon-to-be-built public space will be the first of several signature Blue Line Corridor projects to open and will cultivate a dynamic hub for residents and visitors alike, fostering a sense of community and connection right in the heart of Largo. The Civic Plaza will serve as a focal point for gatherings, events, and local businesses, breathing new life into our suburban landscape.
To design and construct an innovative space that reflects the beauty of our community, Prince George’s County, Maryland Stadium Authority, and the Mayson-Dixon Group convened three public workshops where residents shared input that will shape the future of the project.
These community workshops created a space for engaging discussions about the vision behind the Civic Plaza and invited residents to collaborate by sharing suggestions on how to build a Plaza that will meet the needs and desires of our diverse community. Our engagement featured interactive presentations, showing an exclusive look at the proposed plans and designs for the Plaza, designed to activate street life and enhance walkability and bikeability downtown.
These public workshops also served as an opportunity to learn about the significance of naming the Plaza after Wayne K. Curry, our county's first black County Executive, and honor his legacy as we embark on this transformative journey. In coming together, our community shared brilliant insights that lay the foundation for a Civic Plaza that is a lively, welcoming space for all. Thank you to all who participated and shared their ideas!
The Civic Plaza project team is advancing the designs and expects to break ground in Q2 2025. Enter your contact information below to receive project updates.

A Civic Plaza for Prince George’s County
The County proposes to incrementally transform a portion of the parking lot of the Wayne K. Curry Administration Building into a public plaza that can serve as a programmable and flexible gathering space. Focusing on the southeast corner of the parcel will help to connect the building to both McCormick Drive and Lottsford, helping to activate the street life and generate foot traffic. Beginning with tactical and temporary interventions, the County can rapidly introduce programming in the near-term to catalyze activity while it develops a design for permanent transformation from parking lot into a car-free plaza.
Near-Term Temporary Activation
The County can begin activating the parking lot immediately with temporary programming events, such as farmers markets, food trucks, festivals, craft fairs, all of which only require restricting auto access during the events themselves. This will allow the County to begin establishing an identity for the space through placemaking. The success and popularity of various events will help inform the permanent design.
On August 12, 2023, the County partnered with the Prince George’s Planning Department and Department of Parks and Recreation, the Largo Town Center Association, the Prince George’s Art & Humanities Council, and the Better Block Foundation to host the Placemaking Downtown Largo Festival. This festival featured arts, food trucks, music, performances, local vendors, community workshops, and more. This was the first event held at the site of the future civic plaza, and represents the kind of programming the County envisions taking place regularly at this location once the civic plaza is complete.
Long-Term Permanent Transformation
With an understanding of how people use the space, the County will be well-positioned to design a permanent civic plaza that will play many roles: a space for public gatherings and activism, celebrations and festivals, arts and cultural events.
This is one of five signature projects supported by $400 million in bonding authority that County Executive Alsobrooks and the Prince George’s State Delegation secured from the Maryland Stadium Authority in 2022, the first time in history that the County has worked with the Maryland Stadium Authority on a project.
